World Eskimo-Indian Olympics Storytelling Festival07/18/2011 at 12:00 AM AKDT

The World Eskimo-Indian Olympics will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary this summer and as part of this year's celebration the organizers are reviving the Storytelling event by hosting a Storytelling Festival at the Noel Wien Library.

The Festival will be held on July 20th from Noon to 4 PM and will feature Traditional Yupik Storyteller Marty Hintz who will open the event with an explanation of the storyknife, used by Native storytellers.

All interested storytellers are invited to participate in this non-competitive event and should prepare stories between 5 and 20 minutes in length with minimal staging or props in order to emphasize the spoken word. Stories should have an Alaskan theme and be appropriate for all ages.
